In a tragic incident reported from the New Orleans airport, a baggage handler reportedly died after her hair got stuck in a conveyor belt. The horrific incident occurred earlier on Tuesday last week and the woman who died in the shocking circumstances was identified as Jermani Thompson. Thompson was reportedly employed by the GAT Airline Ground Support, and was offloading a recently landed airplane when the tragedy struck.

Following the tragic incident, the director of aviation for New Orleans airport, Mr. Kevin Dolliole, issued a statement which read – “We are deeply saddened about the tragic loss of GAT Airline Ground Support team member. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport extends its sincere condolences to her family and friends, and also to our partners at GAT and Fontier Airlines.”

“[The victim] was a part of our Airport family, and we will continue to support one another in any way we can during this trying time,” the statement further read.

Meanwhile, the deceased woman’s mother Angela Dorsey told media that her daughter loved basketball and graduated from Jackson, Mississippi’s Tougaloo College. Speaking to media she said, “she was my baby girl. Everybody loved her. I’m just lost for words. I can’t even think.”

Earlier last month, a man in China reportedly died by lightning strike as he posed during his pre-wedding shoot.

Tragedy strikes at any time in any way or form. However, some tragedies are so shockingly abysmal that it becomes difficult for one to wrap their head around it. In one such tragedy, a 26-year-old woman died after her hair got stuck in a conveyor belt at a US-based airport. The deceased was identified as Jermani Thompson.

While the circumstances  around the incident remains unclear, it is being reported that it all transpired sometime around 10.20 pm local time at the Louis Armstrong International Airport, New Orleans. The 26-year-old woman was working as an off loader, and was getting off luggage off an inbound aircraft.

Somehow, her hair got stuck in the conveyor belt and eventually she succumbed to the injuries she received due to the shocking mishap. Following the incident, GAT CEO Mike Hough spoke to ABC News and gave a statement regarding the incident.

“What we know so far is that her hair became entangled with the machinery of the belt loader. We are heartbroken and are supporting her family and her friends as best as we are able,” he said. He further asked people to extend their well wishes to the deceased’s family and everyone involved in the aftermath of the incident.

Meanwhile, Kevin Dolliole, Director of Aviation for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, also issued a statement regarding the incident. The aviation director expressed his sadness regarding the support team member and extended his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased woman.

“The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport extends its sincere condolences to her family and friends, and also to our partners at GAT and Fontier Airlines. [The victim] was a part of our Airport family, and we will continue to support one another in any way we can during this trying time,” he said.
